SICKENING: CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE DAVID BLAIR IS A DEPORTATION PROFITEER

As millions of Americans watch in horror as families are being ripped apart by the new American fascist state, County Executive Candidates is using it as an opportunity to pad his kids’ trust fund.

A courageous attendee at a recent Blair “Happy Hour” revealed to an audience of Blair sycophants that the candidate had invested in not one, but two private prison operators utilized in the fascist crackdown on immigrants.

View the recording above, where Blair refuses to comment on his own financial disclosures and has his “blueshirts” bounce the anti-fascist organizers.

It is unconscionable that Montgomery County has the gall to declare itself safe for immigrants, as a liberal jurisdiction, or even a respectable suburb of the capital while Blair runs for office on his blood money.

Blair’s stubborn refusal to even broach the topic publically is a cowardly display of what we can expect in a Blair-run Montgomery County. Scratch a “pragmatic progressive” millionaire candidate and find a fascist.

Len Lazarick and Glynis Kazanjian of MarylandReporter.com report that David Blair “objected so strongly” to a new TV ad attacking him that he tried to sick his team of lawyers on Comcast to get the ad pulled.

Progressive Maryland Liberation Alliance PAC released the 30 second ad earlier this month as a step in their continued opposition to having a millionaire deportation scum sit in Montgomery County Office

BLAIR CAMPAIGN COLLUSION? OR JUST SHARED INTERESTS OF THE CAPITALIST CLASS?

Bethesda Beat reports that the David Blair campaign received a complaint to the Board of Elections regarding possible collusion between the campaign and a local business astroturf organization Empower Montgomery.

The complaint, which was filed by Bill Frick-donor Brian Kildee, alleges Empower Montgomery’s recent scorecard discourages voters from voting for candidates who received low rankings. County Executive candidates Rose Krasnow, Bill Frick and David Blair scored 11, 9 and 9 respectively; they were awarded far ahead of their opponents. Berliner managed a 6, Leventhal a surprising 3 and Elrich an expect -5.

Kildee notes in his complaint that Blair was once listed as a co-founder of Empower Montgomery on the organization website and was included in a 2016 mailer. In other words, the complaint is an allegation of collusion — Blair’s old astroturf organization, which was padding the runway for him back in ‘16, comes out with a low-key endorsement of him. Charlie Nulsen, local developer (Washington Property Co.) and the founder of Empower Montgomery, denies any such collusion took place and Blair has previously told Bethesda Beat he doesn’t founder of the organization that so closely aligns with his class and personal interests. He just listed himself as one on their website, gave the organization money, and signed their 2016 mailer because that just another rich person hobby.

Besides the Beat’s reporting on the campaign complaint, there’s more behind the Empower scorecard buried between the lines. Earlier this year Empower commissioned Amazon Apologist Anirban Basu to write an economic report criticising Montgomery County’s economic growth, which he presented to the Chamber of Commerce during a mix presentation/political debate that more resembled a capitalist-led struggle-session of the sitting County Council members running for Executive. In response to Anirban Basu report, current County Executive Ike Leggett commented that the report contained cherry-picked factoids, commissioned by Empower with the intent to frighten voters into more fully embracing business-oriented candidates.

We should listen to Ike here, as he correctly identifies what Empower Montgomery is — a sock-puppet organization that speaks for the local development, landlord, and real-estate capitalists. Funded by these interest groups and guided by former-County Councilor turned lobbyist Steve Silverman, Empower isn’t necessarily doing as Kildee seems to think (boosting Blair) but is actually boosting the whole informal slate of “pro-business candidates.”

If Empower’s mailer is meant to do anything, it is meant to draw votes away from current County Council candidates who are trying to stay in politics by running for Executive. Clearly, the business interests behind Empower are tired of these political tools and wants a fresh set. They found it in the unannounced slate we’ll call the “Capitalist Candidates”: Bill Frick, Rose Krasnow, and David Blair (with some corresponding candidates in County Council races such as Marilyn Balcombe and former real-estate candidate Evan Glass).

With the margin of victory thin due to the large number of candidates in nearly all races in the county, Empower can hope to bring one or two voters away from, for instance, Roger Berliner and to any of the three Capitalist Candidates, then they can lessen the probability that Berliner is a true threat to becoming County Executive.

An aside — scorecards are bogus ways for an organization to make endorsements. The democratic process of a scorecard, especially when the organization already doesn’t appear to have a mass membership, is questionable at best. Empower has not released a methodology behind their scorecard.
